La 16 edición de los Premios Screen Actors Guield (SAG), el mayor sindicato de actores en EEUU, se celebró ayer en el Centro de Exposiciones Los Angeles Shrine, ceremonia en la que los previsibles favoritos se adjudicaron los galardones sin ningún tipo de sorpresa. La película ‘Malditos Bastardos’ de Quentin Tarantino se convirtió en la gran triunfadora de la noche al ganar el premio a la Mejor Interpretación Conjunta y al Mejor Secundario para Christoph Waltz. Hoy domingo 17 de enero fue el gran día en Los Ángeles, el día de la ceremonia de la 67 edición de los Globos de Oro, premios otorgados por la Asociación de la Prensa Extranjera de Hollywood (The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, HFPA) y que indican casi siempre, recalco el casi porque hay destacadas y notables excepciones, quiénes serán los ganadores de los futuros Oscars. La pasada noche del viernes tuvo lugar en Los Ángeles la 15 edición de los Critics Choice Awards, los premios que concede la Asociación de Críticos de Estados Unidos a lo mejor del pasado año en lo que al cine concierne. La gran triunfadora de la noche fue ‘The Hurt Locker’ (En Tierra Hostil) que consiguió los premios a la Mejor Película y Mejor Dirección para Kathryn Bigelow, hecho éste a destacar pues ella se convierte en la primera mujer que consigue dicho galardón. Los premios al Mejor Reparto, Mejor Actor Secundario (Christoph Waltz) y Mejor Guión Original (Quentin Tarantino) recayeron en ‘Malditos Bastardos’. La película animada ‘Up’, de Pixar-Disney, fue galardonada con la Mejor Cinta de Animación y Mejor Banda Sonora. Como ya les informó mi colega Lófer, ‘Los abrazos rotos’ de Pedro Almodóvar consiguió el premio a la Mejor Película en Lengua Extranjera. Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe, protagonista de ‘PRECIOUS’, ha sido elegida como Mejor Actriz Revelación por el gremio de críticos, académicos y profesionales del cine americano (National Board of Review). Esta lista es, junto a la de los premios “Indie Spirit”, una de las primeras pistas que indican el potencial de una película en la carrera por el Oscar (Precious opta a 5 Premios Indie Spirit, que se entregan al cine independiente).

‘PRECIOUS’, que distribuye Filmax en nuestro país, está dirigida por Lee Daniels. En sus filas figuran, además de la joven promesa Gabourey Sidibe, Mo’nique, Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz y Paula Patton.

El filme narra la historia de Claireece “Precious” Jones, una chica de 16 años, obesa y analfabeta que espera su segundo hijo de su propio padre ausente. Vive en Harlem, el reino de los invisibles, de los sin voz, con su madre, una reclusa cruel que mira la televisión sin cesar y la somete a los más denigrantes abusos. Forzada a abandonar la escuela a causa de su embarazo, Precious acaba en un instituto para casos desesperados. Y allí, en el último escalón de aquellos que ya han bajado todas las escaleras, está la señorita Rain, una maestra joven, combativa y radical a través de la cual Precious tendrá la posibilidad de recuperar su voz y su dignidad descubriendo un nuevo mundo en el que puede al fin expresarse de una manera que nunca antes había imaginado.

Los ‘Malditos Bastardos’ del director norteamericano Quentin Tarantino, capitaneados por el sin par e inigualable Brad Pitt, serán los encargados de abrir la 57ª edición del Festival de Cine de San Sebastián el viernes 18 de septiembre. La Sección Zabaltegi-Perlas, caracterizada por la presencia de películas de renombre y alta expectación todavía no estrenadas en España, se abrirá con la última cinta de Tarantino, en la que el actor Christoph Waltz se alzó en el pasado Festival de Cannes con el reconocimiento al Mejor Actor. Otra película también presente en Cannes 2009, ganadora en este caso del Gran Premio del Jurado, podrá verse en la Sección Zabaltegi-Perlas, ‘Un prophète’ del director Jacques Audiard. Igualmente se proyectarán en San Sebastián la película de Bahman Ghobadi ‘No One Knows About Persian Cats’, premiado en dos ocasiones con la Concha de Oro; ‘Mother’ del coreano Bong Joon-ho; ‘Yuki & Nina’ de Nobuhiro Suwa; ‘Vengeance’ de Johnnie To y ‘Taking Woodstock’ de Ang Lee.   

La gran sorpresa del pasado Festival de Sundance 2009, la cinta ‘Precious’, inicialmente llamada ‘Push: Based on the novel by Sapphire’, dirigida por Lee Daniels y que se alzó con el Premio Especial del Jurado, el de Mejor Actriz para Mo’Nique y del Público, estará también presente en la sección del festival donostiarra. ‘Five Minutes of Heaven’, cinta que aborda el problema de las víctimas del terrorismo en Irlanda, dirigida por Olivier Hirschbiegel, ganadora en Sundance del Premio al Mejor Director y Mejor Guionista, podrá verse también. Y cómo no, Woody Allen no podía faltar a ésta magna cita con su última comedia ‘Whatever Works’, cinta que ha supuesto el regreso de Allen a Nueva York como set de rodaje.

Dirigida por Lee Daniels y protagonizada por Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe, Paula Patton, Sherri Sheperd, Mo’Nique, Mariah Carey y Lenny Kravitz, ‘Precious’ está basada en hechos reales y narra la desgarradora historia de Clareece “Precious” Jones, una adolescente de raza negra que no sabe leer ni escribir, embarazada de su segundo hijo y con sobrepeso que decide estudiar en una escuela para intentar reconducir su vida.
